Spotted this in the English Country Kitchen cafe in Bordeaux, France and thought it was funny (and true!). The English and French have been frenemies throughout the ages. I’ve visited England and France several times and every now and then, it amuses me to come across some little something that reminds me that they haven’t always seen eye to eye. I guess it takes time to get over a thousand years of annoyances.
If I recall correctly, this cafe was owned and operated by a man with one English parent and one French one who wanted to bring a little taste of England across the Channel, which explains why I was enjoying English comfort food while in France. And it was delicious! If you’re in Bordeaux, stop by and have a bite. Bon appétit!
